What affects the scope
Every job is different, and the independent pro who does the work sets their own price. These are the things they will usually need to know before they can estimate:
- Fixture type and whether shutoffs and supply lines still work
- Access to the space behind or under the fixture
- Whether the work stays inside Utah's handyman exemption

Scope and licensing: Utah treats this as licensed trade work, not as handyman work. Under Utah Code 58-55-305, plumbing on a job needs a licensed plumbing contractor, and even a single component such as a faucet or a toilet calls for a licensed journeyman plumber at minimum, so the pro we look for is one who holds that license and can give you the number to check. You can supply the fixture, or the independent pro can pick one up and include it in their estimate. You approve the price with the pro before anything starts.
Is this cheaper than calling a plumber?
For simple swaps, usually, and you get the price up front. Anything involving pipes inside the wall or gas should go to a licensed plumber instead.
